A Chinese student who we are getting to know for purposes of work - she has been studying peace and reconciliation in the UK - wanted to take us to Nanjing Museum today. So we didn't argue! She is a history major so has all the vocabulary and was able to tell us the facts, the stories in the illustrations and all the things labels don't tell you.
There is a set of pictures on Flickr here. The Nanjing Museum's location is here. Nanjing Museum has one of the largest collections of all that is good in Chinese porcelain, lacquer ware, bronze, calligraphy, gold, silk etc. Nanjing Museum has a website here, and also on Wikipedia.
I am not going to go on as its time for bed, but we just have to gasp in admiration of a culture that was making finely decrated pots when we Brits (or at least our predecessors living in what is now our island)were running around using flint axes and baked mud bowls. You cannot get away from the amazing depth of the culture.
